COPERNICUS. This was the battle name my great-grandfather Bruno had chosen to fight alongside other partisans. I would have liked to know more about him, perhaps to know why he chose that name-perhaps he simply loved math, just like me!
Before I found these boxes in the attic, I did not know the lives of partisans at all, nor did I know their names. Thanks to the partisans I met on this adventure, I understood that they risked their lives for the good of everyone: to be free again to express their opinion, to be able to write, read and study what they wanted, to love people without worrying about their religion or skin color.
Now, however, it is better to put everything away ... but I will tell Mom not to throw anything away because I want to forever remember great-grandfather Bruno and the partisans who fought to liberate Italy.
But-what is inside the pocket of this old coat? It is a picture! It's him, it's great-grandfather Bruno!

Along with this old photograph of him is a paper: it is the document certifying that my great-grandfather was a real partisan. I can be one too! I can be one every day when faced with great or small injustices I choose to react, to speak out, to stand with the weakest. I too can be the protagonist of my own history!
