Large poster board on which to write the diagram, smaller cards on which to stick or draw the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the fruits and the difficulties. Checkers and a game dice.
Description
A team game ideal for both indoor and outdoor play. We begin by explaining the meaning of the 7 gifts of the Spirit and after hypothesizing with the players real situations in which they can be useful, this religiously themed game begins. A board constructed like a Monopoly board is used, in which the boxes represent the weeks of the year. Particularly indicated are the weeks in correspondence with particular liturgical events or events related to the lives of the children or people they are playing (e.g. Lent, Advent, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, etc... But also the beginning of school, etc...) and some "difficulty" boxes scattered around along the path of the year.
Something is associated with each event: pick up the dice, go to a special "church" box to meditate on Advent, go to a special "confessional" box to confess in Lent, go back, go forward a certain number of boxes, etc.
At the beginning of the game each player, or group of players, is given some cards corresponding to some gifts of the Spirit (e.g. for 4 groups of 3 players give 3 gifts at the beginning of the game). When you pass on Pentecost, you receive another gift. When you happen upon a difficulty box, the judge draws a card from the difficulty deck and reads out the assumed difficulty (e.g. quarrel with a friend, choice of school, death of a known person, etc.). Also in the chart is a list of the gifts of the Spirit that could help overcome difficulties.
The player or players must answer using one of the gifts they have in their hands giving an explanation: if the explanation is correct, the answer is considered valid, the difficulty is overcome and you win a card of the fruits of the Spirit among those that can be linked to the difficulty overcome (e.g. if you overcome a quarrel with a friend, you can earn the fruit of Peace).
If the player or players fail to give a convincing explanation or if they do not have the appropriate gift, they end up in the special church box for one turn and when they come out they get a new gift card.
Who win?
Whoever recovers the greatest number of fruits of the Spirit (i.e., whoever overcomes the greatest number of difficulties).
